New year, No change
So I started the my third and final year at DMU last week. It is good to be back and the fact we were thrown straight into our work like we had never left pleases me. Not a fan of all the welcoming things.
Anyway, our first project (kind of) is a style matrix consisting of many projects; varying from stylised characters to realistic environments. The idea is we can choose from then style matrix and tailor our portfolios in the way we want. I plan to be a environment artist so i would like to try the realistic environment projects, however, i started with stylised go kart brief because i like the look of it and compared to environment project; more relaxing.
I started with some simple ideas on Photoshop to begin with, the brief says to design the go karts so that seemed upgraded, so the more you play the more rewards and armour, in a game play sense. I don't want too much of my time dedicated to the concepts so the designs are not as in depth as it would be if i used another project that is just the design and evolution of these go karts.

I began with a quick mood board with go karts, households objects and ideas done by previous games. I liked the idea of just go karts, even though i could of gone with some extreme designs i preferred the idea of a simpler idea of a normal go kart.

My first ideas i didn't like; many of the ideas were very blocky and bland looking designs. i quickly made a 3d model and rendered that to paint over, this helped me out a lot because it got rid of the need to worry about perspective which is why the previous were very blocky ( squares are easier to draw ).

From this I made more basic 3d models to paint over again, in order to come up with my final design, It was a repeat of the previous technique to narrow down the designs easier. I'm glad how it turned out and do like the designs; i may have to tweak them in the model for them to work but ill burn that bridge when i get to it.
